We have a baby, will that be okay?Sure, they will be best buddies in the end. The best strategy for preparing a puppy to meet a baby is by getting the puppy used to the baby’s scent, using a towel or T-shirt. Throw the baby's towel in the crate for a few days. Then take the puppy for a walk beside or behind you while you push the baby’s stroller up front. As always, the walk is the best way to create any kind of bond with a dog. Then the face to face meeting.Feed the baby so he is in a nice calm content state. Mom sits on the floor with the baby. Add one energetic puppy. The puppy might jump on the baby to lick his face. Don't allow it. And communicate that the baby has a space of about one foot. Signal no, if they invade that space. Or the puppy might run away from the baby. If the puppy growls at the baby, don't panic. It is the newness of the situation. Try another day. If the baby can feed the puppy some chicken, that might help. Rhodesian Ridgeback FAQs . . . |
